Debated alot about whether it was worth the 3 hour train ride to Munich and very glad we did go in the end. We got a Bayern ticket which gives the family unlimited travel on trains, buses, subways and trams in the region for one day for 30€.
We arrived in Munich just before midday and after resisting the temptation to go to a Star Wars exhibition in the Olympic Park we walked through the city to St.Peters Church

We climbed the 360 steps up to the top of the church to get a good view of the city. In the distance could see BMWs offices and factory, the Olympic Park, the beer gardens and immediately beneath us the Marienplatz and food market. The bells all around the city rang in 1pm while were up there.

Headed to the outdoor food market which had a great range of fresh food. We bought some olives, dried fruits (mango, apricots, kiwi, banana and oranges), figs, sundried tomatos and quiches

Robert admiring the enormous melons….

Took the subway to Augustiner Keller which has a great big outdoor beer garden and not as touristy as the more famous Hofbrauhaus in the city centre.

The food was surprisingly good too especially the apple strudel for pudding

Bought a couple of litre glasses as souvenirs and then got the tram back to watch the clock display at 5pm. That ran for about 10 minutes and then headed back to get our train home. We got in the van at 9.30pm and were all fast asleep in 5 minutes.
Rest day planned for tomorrow.
