We headed back into Rome today but straight to the Vatican where we planned to spend the day. We saw the Pope give the morning mass from the square (spoken in many languages before finishing in Latin) and then went into the Basilica before it got too busy.

We sat down to eat lunch in the square and write our postcards to be sent via the Vatican post office

We moved on to the Vatican Museum which also contains the Sistine Chapel. We had prebooked to avoid the long queues. The route to the chapel takes you through the museum. Many of the exhibits were from Eygpt such as the temples in Karnak.

Busy in the museum but not squashed unless a large tour group came by. The Sistine chapel is brilliant and very vibrant. Worth sitting down just to take it all in as so many little details.
Time for one more ice cream before we left which Hannah declared as the best on the trip so far

Straight into the swimming pool where Hannah managed to bust her upper lip.

A couple of days in Rome was enough for us. Perhaps it was the heat or the crowds in some places but in comparison to other places on this roadtrip we found we liked Rome rather than loved it. Rest day planned for tomorrow before heading to Lake Garda
