Day 25 – Lauterbrunnen

Today was one of those perfect days. Waking up late to a beautiful view and eating cereal looking at snow top mountains.

After breakfast we strolled into the village and looked around. Then we walked just down the river from the campsite to the local helicopter company called ‘Air Glaciers’. Today was my road trip treat!! A helicopter ride above the Alps. I have always wanted to fly in a helicopter so just knew today was going to be amazing.

The company also fly a medical helicopter and make deliveries to small hamlets or villages that are inaccessible by road.
Below is our helicopter coming to pick us up.

We boarded our helicopter and flew above the Alps.

The views were amazing and the weather was perfect!

Then as a surprise we landed on top of a glacier. One which is difficult to reach on foot so we were alone! It was incredible.

The glaciers here are 900m deep and sit on top of the world. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I loved every minute of it.

Once back on the ground, we went to the tourist office and the shops so Hannah could treat herself to chocolate. Walking back we purchased tickets for tomorrow to Jungfraujoch a two hour train Journey to the highest point in Europe.

After dinner we went to listen to an Alpine horn being played on the campsite.

The children were asked to come and try. Most just gave it a blow once or twice but Robert decided to try some scales and the gentleman was so impressed he encouraged Robert to try other notes.

He is very keen to own one but his pocket money won’t cover it (costs 4000 francs). Hannah managed to get a sound out of it too which is impressive as most of them just blow air.

This has been an amazing adventure and it’s more than just a holiday. I have loved everywhere we have been. There are some I have loved more than others but every one holds a memory. However, today was just unique, really breathtaking and it’s hard to put into words how I felt. I was emotional standing in Venice as it was so beautiful and I was finally there. But today was one of those moments that will make you emotional just by thinking about it like saying I do on your wedding day. Thank you Simon.
