Day 8 – Salzburg

Wet drive to Salzburg this morning with the rain not stopping at all after starting last night. Originally planned to go on a luge this morning but the weather closed the site so decided to make a bigger day than planned in Salzburg.

Arrived at the Camping Sud Nord site, parked the van and got the bus in so we were in town by midday

Started at Mozart’s statue before walking to his birthplace. I finally relented and let the kids have McDonalds for lunch.

Walked onwards to his house or rather a replication of it on the site where it once stood since we wiped  out half of it in 1944 and a Mercedes dealership was built. Good tour through the house about his life. Kids said they want to watch Amadeus when we get back home.

Final sight of the day was to the Mirabelle gardens for the Sound of Music steps

Time to dry off so I had the great idea of going to another beer hall. I picked the most famous in town which is Augustiner’s but wasn’t 100% sure of the way. Even the entrance is like a church said Tonya and very unassuming

But then you turn the corner and see this

You take your stein from a shelf, pay the cashier and they fill it for you from the wooden casks. There are about 4 halls and a row of food shops where Hannah got a sausage while Robert ordered a cheese pretzel and apple strudel

We headed back to the van, warmed up with showers and I did a quick food shop.

Off to Vienna tomorrow via a chocolate factory tour
